Among the preferred ceremonies for a destination wedding in Tuscany, civil weddings are a true favorite! Legally binding while not implying any religious vows, this ceremony is specially preferred among mixed religion or non-religious couples.
Civil weddings are legally valid in any country recognized by the Italian government, do not require nor involve any kind of religious blessing and are performed by a public officer in a municipal office or authorized marriage hall. While this usually means civil weddings can only be performed in a town hall, more and more municipalities are allowing to perform complete legally binding civil weddings in different, often outdoor locations: elegant villas, charming farmhouses and romantic gardens…your wedding planner will inform you of such possibilities according to your preferences, wedding vision and needs.
To celebrate your civil wedding in Tuscany you will need to collect specific paperwork and follow procedures that can be different according to your country of birth: your wedding planner at Tuscanyweddings will assist you with every step. We will provide you with a list of all required documentation and a schedule to help you keeping up with all due dates. Your wedding planner will help you arrange appointments with local consulates, embassies or town halls if required, and will make sure you have all needed assistance at any point of your wedding planning.
The civil wedding ceremony consists in the reading out the Italian Civil Code articles regarding marriage with some traditional wedding vows on the part of a civil officer (in Italian) that will then be translated in your native language with the help of an interpreter. While the wedding script is established and must be performed in full, the ceremony can of course be personalized with readings and vows: it is anyway always advisable to let your wedding planner have your preferred extra readings in advance, to check with town hall clerks if everything is ok on their behalf.
Two witnesses are required to be present at the ceremony that you will be able to choose among your wedding guests (since the ceremony will be entirely translated, it is not necessary that the witnesses speak or understand Italian). Dreaming of a romantic elopement? Don’t worry, your wedding planner will provide with two witnesses for your romantic big day!
Public holidays might affect opening hours of governmental buildings: we will therefore guide you in the scheduling of all your wedding planning, in order to make sure everything runs smoothly. Tuscanyweddings will in fact assist you step by step with all legal formalities, including all possible extra steps needed to validate your wedding certificate in your home country (which is automatic in most countries).
