| Civil weddings in Siena are celebrated in the worldwide famous Piazza del Campo home of the famous Palio (horse race). A city full of character for a perfect mixture of tradition and modernity. The Romans founded it around the time of the birth of Christ. During the Middle Ages the city was both powerful and wealthy, and was envied by Florence which in the 13th century sent forces that reduced its population in half and layed waste to the Senese countryside. Siena is practically unchanged since Medieval times.
Catholic weddings are celebrated in this marvellous Basilica dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi and founded on the 14th century. This is undoubtedly one of the most impressive churches of Siena. The interior is very bright with small chapels decorated with frescoes of Ambrogio Lorenzetti |
