At this time the American Episcopal/Anglican Church Clergy in Florence do not have the required civil status to perform the documentation for a legal marriage in Italy. They bless a marriage that has already been legally contracted in a civil ceremony. We highly recommend that you arrange a legal ceremony before you leave your home country for the legal requirements of your marriage or we can arrange an Italian civil wedding in Florence or any other Tuscan town before the religious blessing. The religious service in at St James will be ˇ°The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriageˇ± from the Book of Common Prayer and will ˇ°lookˇ± like a ˇ°normalˇ± wedding ceremony, but the paperwork of the worldly legalities will already have taken place.
Protestant and religious weddings in Tuscany can also be performed outdoor in gardens of Villas and Castles, farmhouses or hotels. We are able to arrange the service outdoor to be legally binding to allow you to have only one ceremony in Italy.
